Since the triumph of the Islamic Revolution, when Iran became the center of Islamic political movement in the Islamic world, the West led by the US portrayed a hostile image of Islam and the Islamic Republic of Iran. Theorists and leaders of the Islamic Revolution such as Imam Khomeini, in order to counterbalance this move, portrayed the West as their other and the enemy. Ever since, such an image of the West formed Iran’s foreign policy. In this article, using Laclau and Mouffe’s discourse analyses method and the post-colonial theoretical model, authors explore Imam Khomeini’s political discourse. The main question in this research is how the West as the other is represented in Imam Khomeini’s discourse, and how such a representation is affected Iran’s post-revolutionary foreign policy. Based on the hypothesis of this research؛ Imam Khomeini began to draw a boundary between the "us" of Iran and "the other" of the West and proceeded to produce an image of the West, which featured signs such as imperialist, exploiter, devil, tyranny, arrogant, and tyrannical, an image that has become the dominant attitude in our foreign policy. It has shaped the way that political activists are confronted with the outside world.

Islamic movements in the last two centuries in the Islamic world, especially after the victory of the Islamic Revolution, have raised many questions about their nature and their actions. After the new Arab revolutions in the region and the recruitment of violent religious groups, it has become a widespread concern for the international system and global analysts. Meanwhile, one of the main questions is the understanding of their view of general satisfaction or the use of force and the conquest of the establishment of a religious government and its maintenance and survival.
In this paper, by comparing the views of Imam Khomeini and Sayyed Qutb, two contemporary revolutionary thinkers of the Islamic world, on republicanism and despotism, and the attention to the theoretical foundations and historical sources, and their reflection on the movements affected by each of these two views. And it turns out that the element of violence is to look at the negation of republicanism and the legitimacy of despotism. Imam Khomeini's positive attitude toward republicanism and the rejection of violence has led Islamic groups affected by the Islamic Revolution and Imam Khomeini to have a democratic and largely peaceful approach to their political encounters; on the contrary, a negative attitude toward republicanism and the acceptance of violence in the way of creation of an Islamic state by Sayyed Qutb has led to the formation and expansion of the spirit of militarism and zealot among his followers.

After the Islamic revolution and the rise of the system of the Islamic Republic
of Iran over the Persian Gulf and the Middle East, a new wave of ideas and
opinions entered Iran's foreign policy domain and the international relations
structure. The principles and concepts of this revolution and the newly emerged
political system are generally affected by Imam Khomeini's thought and action
as an ideologue and a leader. This article questions the semiotic structure and
articulatory system of Imam Khomeini’s foreign policy and about to give a
descriptive framework for analyzing it. According to the hypothesis, from the
writers' viewpoint, the articulating system of his foreign policy discourse is
describable in a three-dimensional framework of ideology, strategy and
diplomacy. Ideology beholds some principles and belief-related standards that
generally nurture from Islam's revolutionary-critical source. Strategy involves
the security-based calculations and the hardware policy. Moreover, diplomacy
includes the accepted diagrams of conversation and negotiation for achieving
national interests. The results of this discourse are represented in propositions
that are based on concepts of the revolutionary-critical, pragmatic-realist, and
prudent-modernist Islam.
